The Bieler School of Environment听Experiential Learning Fund (BELF) provides versatile financial support for experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom that enhances student knowledge, practical skill development, or network-building in the field of environment. The fund is designed to fund unique, one-off experiences that might otherwise be difficult to support through existing programs, including specific training that may be required to access other training opportunities such as internships.

Eligible environmental training experiences could span basic or applied research fields (such as sustainable agriculture, urban design or conservation), policy, advocacy, or community outreach. Examples include support to:

• attend environmental meetings or negotiations (such as the United Nations Climate Change conferences)
• partake in national or international environment-related competitions (such as Climate Olympiads)
• travel and attend specialized trainings such as workshops, short courses, or boot camps outside of 缅北强奸
• contribute to environmental initiatives such as drafting or reviewing legislation
• present Bieler School of Environment-related research (such as ENVR 401 projects) at conferences/meetings.
• offset costs of research materials, supplies, or equipment, or travel to research sites (for undergraduate for-credit or BURA or equivalent research projects only).
• undertake training/licensing specifically required for students to access other environment experiential learning opportunities, such as boating license or first aid courses or travel vaccinations required for internship or research projects.

Other activities will also be considered (such as support for the student to run or develop a new program or initiative), provided that the applicant can justify how or why this experience is unique and valuable for their environmental training. Funds cannot be used to pay salary or expenses normally incurred during regular course work.

Environmental training opportunities awards are valued up to $2,000.

Eligibility

The fund is open to current undergraduate students enrolled in Bieler School of Environment degree programs听and graduate students working with Bieler School of Environment听jointly-appointed faculty or associate members. Students must be returning and enrolled post award.听听

Students can apply more than once, but preference will be given to students who have not received prior support from the fund. Preference is given to students with demonstrated environmental leadership, passion for promoting and improving sustainable practices, and interest in contributing to community or environmental initiatives. Students must be in good academic standing but grades will NOT听be considered as part of the evaluation process.

Award Selection

Awardees will be selected by a panel consisting of two Bieler School of Environment Jointly-Appointed Faculty or Associate faculty members and one current graduate or undergraduate student.

Post-Award

Successful awardees will be asked to submit a one-page report outlining what they gained from the experience no later than two months after it concludes. The report should begin with a one paragraph summary of the experience for publication in the Bieler School of Environment newsletter, which is distributed to Bieler School of Environment alumni, donors and friends. Students who have received the award in the past may be invited to sit on future award review panels.

Applications will be accepted twice per year, in the Fall and Winter semesters, for opportunities to occur within the subsequent听9听months.
