DISE Research Talks: Math Curriculum Development

Wednesday, March 25, 2020 16:15to17:15
Education Building Room 436, 3700 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 1Y2, CA

Guest Speaker: Sedigheh Asgari, University of Isfahan (Iran)

In a centralized educational system like Iran, the mathematics education curriculum that is implemented by teachers is created by curriculum developers. In such a process, the separation of curriculum "developers" and curriculum "implementers" leads to a gap between the intended curriculum and implemented one. With this in mind, the presentation will discuss the following: the educational system of Iran; Iranian mathematics textbooks (with an emphasis on seventh-grade algebra); the role of teachers in the mathematics curriculum; and teachers' contributions to designing a lesson based on a mathematics textbook.

This event is coordinated by the Research Committee and the Science and Mathematics Education Research Group (SMERG).
