BCom team champions at the 2005 Citigroup International Case Competition
A team of four BCom students (Charles Cooper, Allan Eisen, Caroline Morissette and Andrew Rose) finished first overall at the Citigroup International Case Competition (CICC), held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from October 24 to 30, 2005.
In the Fall 2004 semester, these four students first participated in the Case Analysis and Presentation course and were then selected to represent Ã山ǿ¼é at this very prestigious event.
The third annual CICC attracted a total of 19 teams from 12 different countries. Before the competition began, all the students had the opportunity to network. They participated in a series of social events, including an opening dinner at the Hong Kong Convention Centre, a visit to Citigroup, a night cruise/dinner, as well as a field visit to the Hong Kong International Airport that the case was based on.
Students received a 31-page case on the Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK), with an additional 150 pages of support material. They had 30 hours to submit their analysis and recommendations.
In the preliminary round, Ã山ǿ¼é competed in a division with Mexico, USC, Texas and Fudan University of China. After making the finals on Friday night, Ã山ǿ¼é received additional information in order to prepare for the finals on Saturday afternoon. In the finals, Ã山ǿ¼é was up against great competition from Auckland, New Zealand, Singapore Management University and Thammasat University from Thailand. At the final dinner, it was announced that Ã山ǿ¼é had won the competition — a tremendous accomplishment!
A special thanks goes to team advisor Professor Donovan, who also accompanied the team to Hong Kong, as well as Professors Goldsman, Chaudhury, Toulan, Vakratsas and Gagnon, who provided their valuable input and feedback to the team.
