Experts: Canadian federal government deficit

The federal government’s deficit for the 2023-2024 fiscal year that ended in March 2024 was announced Monday. It was $61.9 billion, significantly higher than the $40.1 billion deficit that had been promised.

Fernando SaltielÌýis an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. His fields of expertise include labour economics and using theoretical economic models for economic policymaking. Prior to coming to Ã山ǿ¼é he worked for two years at the Brookings Institution (and at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center at the same time).
