Top Tips for Term

Let鈥檚 get this Fall 2019 term underway! I thought I would use this week to highlight five top tips for the start of term. Here goes:

  1. Read the course outline (carefully): Your course outline contains essential information for your class, including assessment details, when your tests might be scheduled, key information about learning outcomes, and how to connect with your Professor.
  2. Plan: Get your calendar organized early on! Mark in the key dates for your classes, stick in the holidays and times you might visit home (or host visitors), and block off key dates around study crunch times. Plan, plan, plan鈥攊t鈥檒l help.
  3. Know before you need: Scan the key resources for support early on, whether these are mental health resources, recreation opportunities, or things like tutorial services. Have the details in hand before it becomes a necessity鈥攜our future self will thank you.
  4. Downtime, too: Whether it鈥檚 a walk in nature, Netflix, or time at your favourite coffee shop, it鈥檚 important to make room in your schedule for downtime (see point 2, above). I know everyone is so very busy, but you might find a bit more balance if you can build in some downtime too.
  5. Call your mom! (or uncle, guardian, sibling, friend...): Don鈥檛 forget to reach out to your support system鈥攃onnecting with loved ones can bring you good energy, and will give them important feedback too. Your support system may also be here at 缅北强奸, perhaps with lab-mates or friends in your Residence Hall鈥攚herever it is, and whoever they are, keep them in mind throughout the term.

Study hard, stay well.
