The birth of a child with a neurodevelopmental disability (NDD)  (i.e. autism, cerebral palsy, or intellectual disability) may bring about life altering experiences for mothers and fathers.  Research addressing the experiences of parents of children with NDD has markedly increased in the past few years, yet, understandings of the unique experiences of fathers remain limited in comparison.   In this presentation, findings from two related studies will reveal (1) what research on parenting children with NDD can tell us about fathers’ parenting experiences and (2) and fathers’ narratives about connecting with their child with an NDD.  Implications for social work research and practice will be explored.
