Chemical Society Seminar: Ryan Lundgren - Discovery, Mechanism, and Application of Chemoselective Cross-Coupling Reactions

Tuesday, February 5, 2019 13:00to14:30
Maass Chemistry Building Room 10, 801 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B8, CA

Abstract:

Transition metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions have revolutionized how molecules are synthesized. Our research group is interested in developing new chemoselective coupling processes that complement entrenched Pd-catalyzed methods. This presentation will discuss key observations and experimental parameters that allowed for reaction development, mechanistic aspects of the processes, and applications in bioactive molecule synthesis and functionalization.

Rylan grew up in Winnipeg, MB and completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Manitoba. During his undergraduate studies he worked in the labs of Prof. Mario Bieringer and Prof. Deryn Fogg (Ottawa). Rylan conducted doctoral research under the guidance of Prof. Mark Stradiotto at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, then was an NSERC Postdoctoral research fellow in lab of Prof. Gregory Fu at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later the California Institute of Technology. In 2013 he began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta.
