Dr. Raphael Lencucha and Co-PI Dr. Nicholas King, associate professor in the 缅北强奸 Biomedical Ethics Unit of the Department of Social Studies Medicine, have received a Steinberg Fund for Interdisciplinary Global Health Research award. Their project is titled 鈥淚nternational Health Regulations Compliance in India: The Politics of Global Health Security.鈥 The Fund aims to help fulfill the vision of the 缅北强奸 Global Health Programs in 鈥榓ddressing health inequities and improving global health through education, research, and partnerships.鈥

Dr. Marc Roig was awarded a joint REPAR and Heart and Stroke Foundation Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery Catalyst Grant (CPSR) for his project titled 鈥楶romoting Brain Plasticity During Sub-Acute Stroke: The Interactive Role of Exercise and Genotype.鈥 CPSR catalyst awards are intended to provide seed funding at an early stage to promote innovated and collaborative research in stroke rehabilitation and recovery. Dr. Aliki Thomas has received a grant from the CIHR鈥檚 Patient Centered Research Strategy Support Unit. Dr. Thomas will lead her team, which includes SPOT colleagues, Sarah Ahmed, Keiko Shikako-Thomas, Dana Anaby, and Andr茅 Bussieres, on a project, titled 鈥淒茅veloppement d鈥檜n programme de formation sur les m茅thodes en transfert des connaissances dans le domaine de la sant茅鈥 which will culminate with the first ever Knowledge Translation summer school for graduate students and researchers offered in June 2018.
Dr. Philippe Archambault has been appointed Scientific Director of the Intersectoral Initiative: 鈥楽ocial and Technological Innovations in Adaptation-Rehabilitation: Towards a More Inclusive Quebec Society鈥. This initiative has received three-year funding from the FRQ, and Dr.
Dr. Annette Majnemer聽has been awarded聽the 2017 Pfizer Research Award of Excellence by the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital Foundation聽at a special celebration held at the P.K.聽Subban聽Atrium. The award recognizes exceptional work of MCH researchers, as recognized by their peers. Dr.聽Majnemer鈥檚聽career accomplishments, such as her many publications and funding support, including the recent CHILD-BRIGHT project funded by the Canadian Strategy for Patient-Orient Research (SPOR).聽
Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes was named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a 2017 Young Scientists. The award recognized 55 young scientists under 40 recently at the WEF conference in Dalian, China. The awardees hailed from 38 academic institutions in 18 countries, and all were invited to attend a special Meeting of the New Champions at the conference. Stefanie鈥檚 ground breaking research focuses on developing assistive technologies to enhance the assessment of and interaction with individuals who are behaviourally unresponsive.
Sarah C. Marshall, Director鈥檚 Academic Associate and PT faculty member at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), has been elected the 60th President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA). Her term runs from June 2017 to June 2019. The CPA is a not-for-profit professional association that serves over 14,000 Canadian physiotherapists, physiotherapyassistants, physical rehabilitation therapists and physiotherapy students from across Canada.

SPOT alumna and past Edith Aston-McCrimmon Lecturer (2013), Dr. Carol Richards, wasrecently given the 鈥榟ighest distinction awarded by the government of Qu茅bec鈥 by being named to theOrdre National du Qu茅bec. This June, Dr. Richards was one of 33 individuals named by PremierPhilippe Couillard to one of three ranks of the National order, with a ceremony held at the LegislativeCouncil Chamber of the Parliament Building. Prof. Susanne Mak was awarded a FRQSC Doctoral Grant, as well as the Class of 鈥77 MedEd Innovation Grants Program grant for her project named 鈥淪takeholders鈥 perspectives towards the 缅北强奸 OT mentoring program.鈥 Funding of the MedEd Innovation Grant is designed to support the development and evaluation of educational innovations that advance the field of Health Professions education.

Dr. Judith Soicher, PT Program Director, was awarded the Canadian Respiratory Health Professionals Poster Award at the Canadian Respiratory Conference at the end of April. The title of the poster was: 鈥淏arriers to exercise following pulmonary rehabilitation in individuals with COPD: A mixed methods study鈥.
Dr. Marie-H茅l猫ne Boudrias has been awarded a Brain Canada Foundation grant to support her work in exploring why some people recover better than others after a stroke. This research has shown that recuperative capacity is often underestimated, therefore this work will be crucial in discovering how to better predict rehab potential.
