Gildan makes a $150K donation toward �山ǿ�� Desautels’ sustainability initiatives

Leading sustainable apparel manufacturer Gildan has partnered with the �山ǿ�� Desautels Faculty of Management to advance the University’s Sustainable Growth Initiative. The collaborative effort aims to create actionable strategies for businesses transitioning to sustainability. Over three years, Gildan will be generously contributing $150,000 to �山ǿ��'s Annual Grand Challenge on Sustainability. The event, launching this August, encourages Canadian students to address apparel industry sustainability issues.

CIBC has donated $1.25 million to the Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI) at �山ǿ��'s Desautels Faculty of Management. CIBC's gift to the SGI will support a cross-faculty partnership between the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Law to develop practical and actionable solutions for building a more sustainable economy.

Philanthropist and visionary Marcel Desautels passes away at age 88

Marcel Desautels, LLD’07 (CM, O Ont, OM) generously donated both his resources and his time to furthering business education at �山ǿ��. The business leader and philanthropist passed away on January 31 at the age of 88. Desautels invested over $38 million in students, programs, research and facilities at the Desautels Faculty of Management. “Marcel was deeply passionate about inspiring others to give and get involved,” says Dean Yolande Chan. “And because he believed in us, so many others did too.

Dobson Cup finalist attracts investment from leading venture capital fund

Many service-oriented businesses suffered during the pandemic, but it was a boon for Paper, an online tutoring company. Led by Philip Cutler (BEd’13) and Roberto Cipriani (BSc’08), the company was a finalist in the 2014 Dobson Cup, an annual start-up competition that fosters entrepreneurship and gives cash awards to the best budding businesses. Today, Paper counts more than 450 staff, and over 2,200 tutors.
