Dr. Myrna Lashley receives an Honorary Degree

Dr. Myrna Lashley will receive an honorary doctorate from University of Ottawa in recognition of her many remarkable accomplishments. The honorary degree will be awarded during the second national conference on black mental health in Canada entitled Black Mental Health: Reclaiming the Path to Joy which takes place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on October 16, 2024. Congratulations Dr. Lashley!

Dr. Jai Shah named as a Member of the Royal Society of Canada College

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and its Members have elected this year’s new Fellows and named the incoming class of the RSC College. In addition to 104 new Fellows, the Royal Society of Canada welcomes 56 new Members of the RSC College who have significantly impacted their respective disciplines at both national and international levels. Dr. Marco Leyton is the successful awardee of the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CCNP) Heinz Lehmann Award 2024, which is given out in recognition of outstanding contributions by a single individual in neuropsychopharmacology research in Canada. Congratulations Dr. Leyton!

Appointment of New Director of Undergraduate Medical Education

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marc Chammas as the new Director of Undergraduate Medical Education. He will be replacing Dr. Meterissian whose term ended June 30, 2024. As Director, Dr. Chammas will work closely with the Associate Chair of Education and be responsible for development and advancement of all aspects of UGME within the Department of Psychiatry.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gregory Meterissian for his tireless dedication and enthusiasm in leading the department’s UGME mandate for over 20 years!

Gov. Gen. Mary Simon has announced 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada, and the list includes several high-achieving Quebecers. The order is meant to celebrate people who have made extraordinary contributions to Canadian society. We are pleased to share that Dr. Myrna Lashley is being appointed as a member of the order. Dr. Lashley has worked as a consultant on issues of equity and inclusivity for all levels of government. Congratulation Dr. Lashley!
