Volleyball Martlets get two all-stars and libero of the year

MONTREAL -- Ã山ǿ¼é volleyball player Daphnée-Maude ´¡²Ô»å°ùé-²Ñ´Ç°ù¾±²Ô has been named libero of the year in the Quebec conference. She was honoured by the QUVL, along with teammates Kelsey Irwin of Vancouver, B.C., and Marcela Mansure of Brazil, who earned berths on the first and second all-star teams, respectively.

´¡²Ô»å°ùé-²Ñ´Ç°ù¾±²Ô, a 5-foot-7 sophomore originally from Vaudreuil, Que., who was raised in Kitchener, Ont. Despite missing four matches at the beginning of the season due to illness, the 19-year-old education major led the league in digs per game (4.05) and total digs (247).

"She is arguably the team's most dedicated athlete and showed tremendous consistency throughout the entire season,"Ìýsays head coach Rachele Beliveau. "She excels in passing and is also a very good and agile defensive player. Her strongest attribute is her serve receive average, which was 2.23 (out of 3), for a 74 per cent success rate, which is an important component for someone who plays the libero position."

Irwin, a three-time Quebec conference all-star, is a six-foot middle blocker. The fifth-year political science and sociology senior ranked among CIS leaders in both total points (third) and kills (fourth).

Mansure, a 5-foot-7 setter, earns a spot on the second team for the second straight year. The 23-year-old occupational therapy junior led the league in assists with 708 and ranked second in assists per set (9.32).
