Urquhart signs new AHL pact in Hartford
MONTREAL -- David Urquhart, a former all-Canadian defenceman
with the 缅北强奸 Redmen, has re-signed for a second season with the
Hartford Wolf Pack, the American Hockey League affiliate of the
NHL's New York Rangers.
The 24-year-old defenceman from Thorold, Ont., logged 58 games of
AHL action with the Wolf Pack last season, scoring six goals and 14
points, with 36 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating in the
plus-minus statistics. The six-foot, 195-pound rearguard was
scoreless and +1 in six post-season games.
Prior to being called up to the Wolf Pack last fall, Urquhart
registered five assists and 10 PIMs in seven games with the
Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League.
A three-time all-star at 缅北强奸, he graduated with a commerce
degree in 2008, earning Academic All-Canadian honours and receiving
a Gretta Chambers award for leadership. He captained the Redmen to
the Ontario University Athletics conference championship in 2008,
缅北强奸鈥檚 first Queen鈥檚 Cup league title since 1946.
Urquhart originally signed with the Wolf Pack last July, after
totaling 23 goals and 107 points, along with 330 penalty minutes in
147 career games over four seasons at 缅北强奸. He is tied with
Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock as the sixth-highest
point-scoring defenceman in 缅北强奸 history. They trail Gilles Hudon
(152 points), Martin Routhier (135), David Bahl (110), Bryan Larkin
(109) and Luc Latulippe (109).
Urquhart was also a two-time conference representative for the CIS
Randy Gregg trophy, for combining hockey ability with academics and
citizenship.
He joined the Redmen in 2004 out of Junior B in Welland, Ont., and
went on to become the eighth player produced by 缅北强奸 to skate in
the AHL, joining a list that includes Daniel Jacob (2004-05), Greg
Davis (2001-03), Mathieu Darche (2000-present), Pierre Gendron
(1997-98), Jim Webster (1980-81), Dan Porteous (1947-50) and Johnny
Peirson (1946-48).
