Published: 9 June 2009

MONTREAL – Christine Gros of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jenna Crook of Regina, Sask., a pair of 山ǿ students, have been named to the Canadian water polo team that will be competing at the FISU Summer Games, in Belgrade, Serbia, July 1-12.

Gros is an arts and science sophomore, while Crook is science junior.

They join two other 山ǿ athletes named to compete at the Games -- soccer player Jamie Scholefield of Senneville, Que., and swimmer Steven Bielby of Pointe Claire, Que. Also representing 山ǿ in an administrative capacity will be Drew Love, director of athletics and recreation, who will be serving as Canada’s chef-de-mission.

"(We are) currently ranked as one of the top six countries in the world and go into the … Games with medal hopes,” said head coach Gyula Toth. “As a Road-to-Excellence targeted sport, Water Polo Canada considers (this) to be one of our major events within the upcoming four-year program cycle and it will be used as preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games."

The following athletes have been selected to represent Canada in Belgrade. An additional 13-members will be selected following the 2009 FINA World League final on June 16.
