Three Redmen hoopsters receive RSEQ conference honours

MONTREAL - Three members of the 缅北强奸 Redmen were honoured as the R茅seau du sport 茅tudiant du Qu茅bec announced its all-stars and major award winners in men's university basketball.

Karim Sy-Morissette of Montreal and Tristan Renaud-Tremblay of Terrebonne, Que., merited berths on the first and second all-conference teams, respectively, while Vincent Dufort, from Smiths Falls, Ont., made the all-rookie squad.

Sy-Morissette, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard, led the league in minutes played (34.2 average) finished ninth among the conference's scoring leaders (11.3 per game) and was eighth in rebounding (5.4 per game). The 21-year-old management sophomore also finished ninth in field-goal shooting (.417), second in assists (3.8 per game) and third in steals (2.3 per game).

Renaud-Tremblay, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward, was third on the Redmen in scoring (9.3 ppg) and was seventh among the league's rebounding leaders (5.4 rpg). 听The 22-year-old kinesiology sophomore transferred to 缅北强奸 in 2010 after spending a year at The Citadel in North Carolina. He also finished third in the RSEQ conference in field-goal shooting (.466) and was ninth in free-throw shooting (.617).

Dufort, a point-guard who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 190, was 10th among league leaders in both, scoring and rebounding, averaging 11 points and 4.9 boards per game. A 19-year-old freshman who is majoring in physical and health education, he was ninth in 3-point shooting (.314), fifth in blocked shots (0.5 per game), fourth in defensive rebounding (4.6) and 10th in minutes played (29.1)

Rounding out the other major award, Concordia forward Evens Laroche of Montreal, was named the most outstanding player, while UQAM's 脡ric C么t茅-Kougnima of Gatineau, Que., was honoured as the defensive player of the year for the third consecutive season. Bosnia native Boris Hadzimuratovic was picked as rookie of the year, Bishop's star Tim Hunter of Baie d'Urf茅, Que., received the award for best combining athletics with leadership and Citizenship. Concordia bench boss John Dore was named coach of the year for the 14th time and veteran referee Mike Homsy, a 缅北强奸 grad and former player with the Redmen, was named the official of the year.
