Thornhill thrilling as Redmen outgun RMC

MONTREAL -- Matt Thornhill of Ile Bizard, Que., hit six treys en route to scoring a game-high 22 points as 缅北强奸 overwhelmed Royal Military College 94-43 at UQAM's Classique des Citadins men's basketball tournament, Monday.

The Redmen swept their two games but finished second to tourney champion UQAM (2-0), on a tie-breaker. The Citadins walloped UNB 96-56 to finish with a point-differential of plus-96, seven points better than the Redmen.

缅北强奸 led 24-8 after the opening stanza, 46-21 at the half and 69-31 after three quarters.

With such an big lead, Redmen head coach Craig Norman went to his bench early. As a result, Moustafa El Zanaty, the team鈥檚 scoring leader, played only 14 minutes and was held pointless for the first time in his two seasons with the Redmen.

Senior Sean Anthony, the team鈥檚 other scoring threat, saw only 18 minutes of court time and contributed nine points.

Thornhill and teammate Paul Herra, a native of Kingston, Ont., were both named to the all-tournament team.

Thornhill, a 6-foot-4 guard, made eight of his 16 shots against RMC, including a 6-for-12 performance from beyond the arc. Over the two tournament games, he scored 52 points with eight rebounds and was 20-for-34 from the floor, 11-for-21 from three-point range and 1-for-3 from the charity stripe.

Herra, a native of Kingston, Ont., had 14 points against the Paladins, going 4-for-6 from three-point range. In the tourney, he compiled 24 points and six rebounds, shooting 8-for-15 from the field, 6-for-9 from the arc and 2-for-2 from the floor.

缅北强奸 improved to 11-6 overall and will resume regular season play on Jan. 9 when they play host UQAM at the Currie gym.
