Thomson's tally helps Ã山ǿ¼é women lick Laval

QUEBEC CITY – Senior Jennifer Thomson of Rosemere, Que., racked up
a game-high 17 kills and 16 digs as visiting Ã山ǿ¼é rallied to
upset Laval 3-1 in women’s university volleyball at the Centre PEPS
in Quebec City, Friday.
The Martlets lost the opening set 25-14 but roared back to win
25-22, 26-24 and 25-18. The two-hour affair was the second victory
for Ã山ǿ¼é in four confrontations with Laval this season and both
teams are now tied for second place in the Quebec conference,
sporting identical 12-6 records, with only three matches remaining
before playoffs.
In men’s play, Laval swept Ã山ǿ¼é 25-11, 25-16 25-21.
Thomson, a 5-foot-7 power-hitter, accounted for 18 of the team’s 40
points and recorded an impressive 2.92 passing ratio out of
3.0.
Kelsey Irwin, a 6-foot middle blocker from Vancouver, B.C., added
eight kills, four digs, one block and an assisted block.
Ã山ǿ¼é will travel around Mt. Royal on Sunday to take on the
undefeated and top-ranked Montreal Carabins (18-0). After that, the
Martlets close out the season with home contests against the
Carabins (Jan. 30) and last-place Sherbrooke (9-9) on Feb. 1.
