St-Pierre, Ward help Canada give Espoo boys the blues
ESPOO, Finland – Ã山ǿ¼é grad Kim St-Pierre of Châteauguay, Que., made 24 saves for the shutout and Catherine Ward, a Ã山ǿ¼é rearguard from Town of Mt. Royal, Que., had an assist as the Canadian national women’s team skated to an 8-0 victory over the Espoo Blues boys team, Sunday. It was Canada’s second win in as many days over Midget AAA competition.
Gillian Apps of Unionville, Ont., and Jennifer Botterill of Winnipeg, Man.,Ìý each scored a pair of goals to lead Canada. Other markers were scored by Sudbury natives Tessa Bonhommeand Rebecca Johnston, plus Meghan Agosta of Ruthven, Ont., and Meaghan Mikkelson of St. Albert, Alta.
The Canucks will hit the ice next on Tuesday, when it faces Finland in the final tuneup game ahead of the 2009 IIHF world championship tournament, which kicks off on April 4, with Canada taking on China.
