Son of NFL gun named special teams player of the week

MONTREAL - Austin Anderson, a place-kicker with the Ã山ǿ¼é Redmen has been selected along with running back Rotrand Sené from the University of Montreal and Laval linebacker Frédérick Plesius as the Quebec University Football League's players of the week for the period ending Sept. 19, 2010.

Anderson is the QUFL special teams player of the week. He accounted for 19 points and matched a single-game school record with six field goals in Ã山ǿ¼é's 34-29 loss to Concordia last Friday. A native of Canmore, Alta., and the son of former NFL all-time scoring leader Gary Anderson, he went 6-for-8 in the Shaughnessy Cup game, connecting on distances of 46, 27, 12, 48, 18 and 42 yards. The 21-year-old finance junior equaled the Ã山ǿ¼é single-game mark set by Glenn Miller in 1984 and was one short of the Quebec conference record set by Christopher Milo in 2008 for most field-goals in a non-overtime game.

Sené is the QUFL offensive player of the week after leading his team to a 27-10 road win over the StFX X-Men last Saturday. The sophomore rusher delivered a 33-carry, 220-yard performance. Sené reached the end zone on a one-yard plunge in the fourth quarter and gathered in a pair of passes for anotherÌý28 yardsÌýin the contest. The Montreal native is the leading rusher in Canada racking up 505 yards through three games, an average of 168.3 per contest.

Plesius is the QUFL defensive player of the week. The liberal arts sophomore from Laval, Que. racked up 6.5 tackles and recorded his first sack of season dropping QB Micah Brown for an eight-yard loss late in the second quarter in Laval's 45-7 road win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax.
