MONTREAL - The sixth-ranked 缅北强奸 women's soccer team battled No.2-Montreal to a 1-1 draw in a Quebec university game of huge importance at Molson Stadium, Sunday,

听

It took only four minutes for 缅北强奸 to get on the scoreboard against a division-leading Carabins squad that had entered the game with shutouts in each of their first five outings.

Alexandra Morin-Boucher, a senior striker from Montreal, converted a nice three-way play initiated by Meghan Bourque of Burlington, Ont., and freshman Alexandria Hoyte of Laval, Que. Morin-Boucher's shot, taken from about 20 yards out on the right side, ended up in the top left corner of the net, past the outstretched arms of 'keeper Martine Julien from Lachine, Que.

听

Isabelle Dumais netted the tying marker in the 38th minute, also converting a pretty three-way passing play, from teammates Marylise Monchalin and Eva Thouvenot-Hebert. Her shot from in close on the right wing eluded 缅北强奸 'keeper Shimone Slomowitz, who was filling in for injured starter Victoria Muccilli. Slomowitz, a senior from West Vancouver, B.C.,was credited with three saves in what was no doubt, on of the most important games of her career.

缅北强奸 had a golden opportunity to steal a victory with about six minutes remaining but Julien robbed sophomore defender Kelsey Wilson on a penalty-kick. The call came as a result of a trip by Carabins Emmanuelle Beliveau-Labrecque, a fifth-year midfielder who was red-carded for tripping Morin-Boucher on a breakaway.

听

"We played our best game of the season," said Marc Mounicot, in his 14th season as head coach on the 缅北强奸 sidelines. "We needed to bounce听back after our disappointing (1-0) loss to Sherbrooke on Friday and the team answered the call, producing听numerous quality plays and听outplaying Montreal in the second half. But the Carabins 'keeper had an exceptional game, especially on that penalty-kick. At the same time, however, we saved a shot from crossing our goal-line just before the final whistle."

听

缅北强奸 had a 14-11 advantage in shots toward the net but were thwarted time and time agains by Julien, who was credited with five saves and selected by Mounicot as the Carabins player of the game. The Martlets game MVP, made by Carabins head coach Kevin McConnell, a former Redmen star, was Hoyte.

听

"It was a nice a smart team effort and we showed that we can match them on any given day," added Mounicot. "Our entire team is to be congratulated. They played with intensity and at a high, technical level. We set the standard regarding performance tonight and the girls now know that they can play with the top teams in the country."

听

缅北强奸 (4-1-1) plays at fifth-place UQTR (2-2-2) on Sept. 30 before hosting sixth-place UQAM (1-5) on Oct. 2. The Carabins (5-0-1) play at Laval (3-2-1) before hosting cellar-dwelling Bishop's (0-4-1) next weekend.
