Redmen offence gets narly at Nipissing

Published: 9 October 2010

NORTH BAY, Ont. - They came, they saw, they conquered. Eight different players scored and 10 players registered assists as 缅北强奸 cruised to a narly 9-4 win over the Nipissing Lakers in men's university hockey before 1,000 at Memorial Gardens, Saturday.

It was the seventh consecutive victory for the defending OUA champion Redmen under new head coach Kelly Nobes, including a 2-0 start in听 regular season play.

缅北强奸 outshot the Lakers 52-18, including a 24-5 margin in the final period, when they exploded for four markers. The Redmen led 2-1 after the opening period and 5-3 after two. The second period was temporarily cut short when the first of two power outages occurred at 19:45. The game was delayed for seven minutes in the third period when the lights went out a second time.

Newly appointed team captain Evan Vossen, an industrial relations senior from Swift Current, Sask., scored a pair of goals to lead the onslaught and rookie defenceman Ryan McKiernan of White Plaines, N.Y., netted the game-winner for the second consecutive night.

"I was pleased with our offensive output tonight," said Nobes, in a bit of an understatement. "It was good to see all four lines contribute on the scoreboard. We created many opportunities and got more pucks to the net than the previous night (a hard-fought 3-2 overtime win against Toronto)."

Other marksmen included Francis Verreault-Paul of Mashteuiatsh, Que., Torontonian Andrew Wright, Marc-Andr茅 Daneau (shorthanded) of Daveluyville, Que., Jean-Francois Boisvert of Mirabel, Que., Simon Marcotte-L茅gar茅 of Longueuil, Que., and Patrick Belzile of St. Eloi, Que.

Alexandre Picard-Hooper and Maxime Langelier-Parent each added three helpers.

Scoring for Nipissing was Andrew Marcoux with two, plus Brandon Happeney and Dan Watt.

Rookie goaltender Antoine Tardif, also from Daveluyville, was credited with 14 saves en route to picking up his first regular season win as a member of the Redmen. Matt Hache of Guelph, Que., his counterpart with the Lakers, made 43 saves in a losing cause.

The Lakers (1-2) hit the road next weekend for games at Ottawa and Queen's. 缅北强奸 (2-0) will put their win streak through a true litmus test in the coming week when they take on UQTR (1-1), their long-time archrivals, in a home-and-home series, beginning at the Colis茅e in Trois-Rivieres on Oct. 14. The re-match is slated to be 缅北强奸's official home-opener on Oct. 18 in a rare Monday night affair.

REDMEN RAP: Joining Vossen in the captain's quarters are alternates Marc-Andr茅 听Dorion, a junior from St. Hubert, Que., and senior Guillaume Doucet of Anjou, Que..... Ryan McKiernan is the first American to play for 缅北强奸 since New Yorker J.A. Schneider (brother of former Habs blue-liner Mathieu Schneider) skated for the Redmen from 1995 to 1998... The nine goals scored marked the most goals by the Redmen since last season, when they accomplished the feat five times, the last occurrence being a 9-0 victory over Ottawa (Feb. 13, 2010)...
