OTTAWA - Four different players scored as Carleton took advantage of a depleted 缅北强奸 lineup to upset the No.2-ranked Redmen 4-0 in men's university hockey at the Ice House, Saturday.
It snapped 缅北强奸's eight-game win streak and was the first regular season loss in regulation play for 缅北强奸 (22-1-2), which was missing seven regulars in addition to losing two more players to injury during the game.
It also marked the first time in 69 league contests that the Redmen had been shutout dating back to a 3-0 home-ice loss to Ryerson on Nov. 28, 2008.
Linden Bahm, a freshman from Kinburn, Ont., scored what proved to be the game-winner before the game was 13 minutes old. The Ravens, who sit third in the division with a 15-7-2 record, upped their lead with second period markers by Andrew Self of Peterborough, Ont., and Joe Pleckaitis of Toronto. Joey Manley, a senior from Ottawa, rounded out the scoring at 15:05 of the final frame.
Netminder Ryan Dube, a sophomore from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., made 32 saves for his second career shutout, while 缅北强奸 freshman Antoine Tardif of Daveluyville, Que., was credited with 35 saves in a losing cause.
缅北强奸 was without three of their top players who are currently representing Canada at the World University Games in Turkey, including team captain Evan Vossen, all-Canadian defenceman Marc-Andre Dorion and Maxime Langelier-Parent, arguably one of the top defensive forwards in CIS hockey.
Also scratched was injured sniper Francis Verreault-Paul (leg), who leads the nation with 28 goals in only 19 games, plus starting goaltender Hubert Morin (upper body), centre Patrick Belzile (hand) and forward Jean-Francois Boisvert (upper body). During the game, the Redmen also lost high-scoring right-winger Andrew Wright (upper body) in the second period and veteran defenceman Ben Morse, who left in the third period after losing three teeth when struck in the mouth by a deflected puck.
The Ravens were missing two of the top players -- forwards Brandon MacLean and Ryan Berard -- who are with the CIS all-star team in Turkey, as well.
Carleton will play the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Feb. 4, before hosting 缅北强奸 again on Feb. 5 at 3 p.m.
