New aquatics manager appointed for 缅北强奸 swim team鈥檚 centennial season

Published: 1 September 2009

MONTREAL - Peter Carpenter, who has guided the Pointe Claire swim club to seven national titles in various age categories since 2005, has accepted a new posting as aquatics manager and head coach of the 缅北强奸 swim team, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009-10.

"We're extremely pleased to find an individual of this calibre to revitalize our entire aquatics program," said Drew Love, executive director of athletics and recreation at 缅北强奸. "We recently restructured in order to have a high-performance swim program with a mix of both varsity and elite club swimmers. Coach Carpenter will play a key role in helping our student-athletes achieve excellence in the pool."

Carpenter, a 35-year-old native of Pointe Claire, Que., returned last Friday from the Canada Games in PEI, where he coached the Quebec provincial team to nine gold medals, 12 silver and 16 bronze last week.

"This will be a new and exciting challenge for me," he said. "As a coach, the goal is to have a pool of happy, motivated athletes who are performing to their full potential, which is what I intend to do at 缅北强奸."

Carpenter, who holds a Level 3 license from the National Coaching Certification Program, counts Canadian Olympian Tobias Oriwol among the young swimmers that he helped develop.

Steven Bielby is another of Carpenter's star swimmers from the renowned Pointe Claire club. A 20-year-old electrical engineering major, Bielby is coming off a stellar freshman campaign at 缅北强奸, where he won three gold medals at the 2009 CIS swim championships, earned the University's male athlete-of-the-year award and represented Canada at the world university games in Serbia last month.

Carpenter, a long-time resident of the West Island region of Montreal, attended Royal West Academy, John Abbott College and Concordia University, where he graduated in 1997 with an arts degree, majoring in geography.

He replaces Francois Laurin, who has left the 缅北强奸 program after serving the past 24 years as head coach.
