For many translators, they are driven by two passions: the love of languages and the need to improve intercultural communication. The 2014 recipient of the 缅北强奸 Associates Prize in Translation (English-French) is no exception to the rule.

Ms Hilda Monzon Bosch received this distinction at the spring graduation ceremony when she was awarded her Certificate in Translation.

Ms. Monzon Bosch鈥檚 academic record and professional experience bear witness to her mastery of French, English, Spanish and German as well as her ability to apply her language knowhow to both her work and her community engagement.

After obtaining an undergraduate degree in French Studies and Spanish Literature from Concordia University in 2004, she profited from the Quebec Government鈥檚 international language assistants program run by the Minist猫re de l鈥櫭塪ucation, du Loisir et du Sport. As a result, she taught French, English and Spanish for two years in Germany at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium, a secondary school in Dortmund known for its French-German bilingual program. As one could well imagine, Ms. Monzon Bosch also gave workshops to promote the French language during that time. As an added benefit, she was able to add German to her slate of languages.

Once back in Quebec, she started out on a career in translation by breaking into several areas of international cooperation, including projects with two organizations, International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and World University Service of Canada (WUSC). In 2012, she joined a Montreal law firm as a legal assistant and embarked on legal translation and revision while at the same time studying at 缅北强奸鈥檚 School of Continuing Studies.

"Driven by her passion for languages and intercultural relations, Ms. Monzon Bosch has carved out a career as a multilingual translator. She will certainly be in a position to contribute to the development of the translation profession that continues to become more international in scope, "said James Archibald, Director of 缅北强奸鈥檚 Translation and Written Communication unit.聽

缅北强奸 offers both an undergraduate certificate and a graduate diploma in translation for aspiring translators interested in the language industry.
