Published: 7 February 2008

The 缅北强奸 Health Centre (MUHC) is pleased to announce that it signed this afternoon, in the presence of Mr. G茅rald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal, and Ms. Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture and Communications, the Pacte patrimonial du mont Royal, which comprises fourteen institutions located on the mountain. By signing this pact, the MUHC has reinforced its commitment to protect and emphasize the heritage of Mount Royal.

鈥淢ount Royal is a major part of the MUHC鈥檚 history, as it has been home to four of our five founding hospitals,鈥 explained Dr. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the MUHC. 鈥淲e are proud to concretely demonstrate our desire to act in the best interest of the mountain and will continue to implement sustainable initiatives in this direction.鈥

This agreement aims to preserve and celebrate the natural and architectural heritage of Mount Royal, including that of the Montreal General Hospital, the Montreal Neurological Hospital, and the Royal Victoria Hospital, while allowing the harmonious evolution of the signing institutions. These buildings and their connected infrastructure represent the institutional legacy of the mountain and will remain a permanent fixture of Montreal鈥檚 landscape. The Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital was also located on the mountain鈥檚 side on Cedar Avenue from 1909 to 1956.

Through its Redevelopment Project, the MUHC intends to improve the urban integration of the Montreal General Hospital by developing this site to include activities of the Montreal Neurological Hospital. The new Mountain Campus will be designed based on the current building envelopes in order to preserve the views of the mountain as well as the hospital鈥檚 architectural heritage. Aware of its impact on the surrounding natural environment, the MUHC also intends to pursue the project鈥檚 environmental and sustainable objectives, namely through the LEED certifications of the Canada Green Building Council and the Go Green program of BOMA Canada.
