SUTTON, Que. – The Ã山ǿ¼é alpine ski team had a solid outing in a pair of giant slalom races at Mt. Sutton in the Eastern Townships over the weekend.

The Redmen racked up enough points to post respective third- and first-place showings in two weekend races, while the Martlets, finished second both days.

On the men’s side, Eli Sheiner, a Ã山ǿ¼é freshman from Nepean, Ont., earned silver and bronze medals. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound arts major currently sits second in a tight race for the individual title. Laval’s Simon Mannella leads the circuit with 925 points after six races, followed by Sheiner (790) and Laval’s Marc Chartier (700). Four races remain on the calendar.

Michel-Oliver Saucier, a management freshman from Vaudreuil sur le Lac, Que., came in third on Saturday and tied for fifth on Sunday.

Other top 10 finishes by the Redmen were registered by Chris Vining (5th) of Montreal, and the duo of Vincent Gilbert-Dore, another Montrealer, and Vaudreuil’s Michel-Olivier Saucier, who tied for seventh on Sunday.

Carter Burton, a former member of the Ã山ǿ¼é soccer team, paced the Martlet skiers. The arts senior from Portsmouth, N.H., posted fifth and third-place showings, respectively.

Burton is currently ranked fifth in the individual scoring race with 560 points. Laval’s Ariane Boivin leads the women’s division with 950 points, just ahead of Montreal’s Marie-Pierre Podtetnev (875). Carabins’ teammate Laurence Ledoux is third (680), followed by Ã山ǿ¼é veteran Megan Kidston (645).

Kidston, a kinesiology senior from 100 Mile House, B.C., was fifth and fourth, respectively, over the weekend.

Other top 10 finishes came from freshmen Arianne Angers (9th, 6th) of Montreal and Laurel Broten (7th) of Frisco, Colorado.

The next two races will be a pair of slaloms held at Montcalm, March 7-8 before the season wraps up at Mont Garceau, March 13-14.
