缅北强奸 physician named "Family Medicine Researcher of the Year"

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) has named 缅北强奸 family medicine professor Dr. Ann C. Macaulay 鈥淔amily Medicine Researcher of the Year鈥 for 2008. This award honours a family medicine researcher who has been a pivotal force in the definition, development and dissemination of concepts central to the discipline of family medicine.

鈥淚 am very honoured to be recognized by my peers. This is also a very high recognition for the importance of participatory research,鈥 Dr. Macaulay said.

A strong advocate of participatory research, which promotes the collaboration of all stakeholders in research 鈥 individuals, organizations, policy makers or entire communities 鈥 Dr. Macaulay launched Participatory Research at 缅北强奸 (PRAM) within the Department of Family Medicine in September 2006 and is still Director of the centre.

Her conviction in the benefits of this approach stems from her 30-year involvement in the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, Quebec, where she served as a physician and established a diabetes-prevention program. Her work has resulted in significant contributions to the study and prevention of type 2 diabetes in the Aboriginal population.

鈥淭his outstanding recognition of Dr. Ann Macaulay by the College of Family Physicians of Canada is testimony to her clear vision and life-long commitment to translate research into better, preventive health care,鈥 said Dr. Richard I. Levin, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at 缅北强奸. 鈥淒r. Macaulay鈥檚 wonderful work within the Aboriginal community of Kahnawake will have far-reaching benefits and serve as the benchmark going forward for others engaged in participatory research. The 缅北强奸 Faculty of Medicine is very proud to have Dr. Anne Macaulay within its academic community.鈥

The formal announcement and presentation of an award to Dr. Macaulay will take place at the CFPC鈥檚 annual meeting, Nov. 27 - 29, in Toronto.

"Dr. Macaulay's insightful work in the area of community-based research will benefit Aboriginal communities in Canada and internationally. We commend her on the quality of her work that is making a significant contribution to family medicine across Canada and reflects the high standards of our national medical research community.鈥

Dr. Ann Macaulay has previously been named to the Order of Canada, foreign member of the Institute of Medicine (USA), and Canadian Institutes of Health Research Advisory Board Member for the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples鈥 Health.
