Ã山ǿ¼é hoops star earns CIS all-rookie honours

MONTREAL – Freshman Anneth Him-Lazarenko of the Ã山ǿ¼é Martlets
has earned a berth on the CIS women’s basketball all-rookie
team.
The 5-foot-10 forward from Ste. Dorothée, Que., was the Quebec
league rookie-of-the-year and earned a berth the all-conference
team but suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right
knee on Jan. 31 and missed the remainder of the season.
Him-Lazarenko, a 21-year-old education major, led the QUBL scoring
race with 14.8 points per game and rank third in both rebounds
(7.9) and field-goal percentage (48.0). She was second in
free-throws made (51) and ninth in steals (1.5 per game).
Him-Lazarenko is the eighth member of the Martlets to earn national
all-rookie honours. Previous Ã山ǿ¼é recipients include Debby Morse
(1989-90), Mélanie Gagné (1991-92), Vicky Tessier (1992-93), Maude
Vallières (2000-01), Kelly-Rae Kenyon (2001-02), Julianne
Noseworthy (2004-05) and Catherine Parent (2005-06).
