缅北强奸 hoops coach named to Team Canada staff for PanAm Games in Mexico

MONTREAL -- Dave DeAveiro, head coach of the 缅北强奸 men's basketball team, has been officially announced as an assistant coach of the Canadian national team that will compete at the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct, 14-30.
听
He will be joining the national team after guiding the Redmen this weekend at the 17th annual 缅北强奸 Redbird Classic, an eight-team men's and women's tournament held Oct. 21-23 at the Currie Gym, 475 Pine Avenue West.

The PanAm men's basketball competition is slated for Oct. 26-30 and Canada will compete in Group A, where they will face Argentina, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The top two teams from Group A and B will advance to the semifinals, while the remaining two squads from each pool will play in a classification round for positions fifth to eighth. Canada's first game is set for Oct. 26 against Argentina at 11:30 a.m. Eastern. Canada finished seventh overall at the 2007 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Canada's roster, made up entirely of CIS athletes, features 11
members from the national developmental team that captured a silver
medal at the 2011 FISU Universiade Summer Games in China. The
lineup also includes Phil Scrubb of Richmond,
B.C., from the junior national team that finished 11th听at the
2011 FIBA under-19 world championships.

DeAveiro will work under Carleton University head coach Dave Smart , a native of Kingston, Ont., who previously served as an assistant with the 2008 senior national team. Since taking over at Carleton, Smart has been named the CIS coach of the year four times and has led the Ravens to seven national titles. The other assistant on staff is University of Victoria听 head coach Craig Beaucamp of Burnaby, B.C.

DeAveiro, a 47-year-old native of Toronto, guided the Redmen to a 16-17 record overall in 2010-11, including a 15-13 mark against CIS opponents and a 10-6 record in league play, which was 缅北强奸's best regular season mark in a decade.

He previously served as an assistant coach with Canada Basketball on numerous occasions, including the men's junior and senior national teams. Among DeAveiro's stints with the national program was with Jay Triano's staff on the national hoops squad at the 2011 PanAm Games, a 2003 pre-Olympic tourney in China, the 2007 FISU Summer Games in Bangkok where Canada won bronze, the 2008 FIBA Americas under-18 championship in Argentina and the 2009 FIBA world junior championship in New Zealand. DeAveiro also served as a guest coach to Leo Rautins at a national senior team training camp in 2010.
