Published: 17 February 2012

MONTREAL - The 缅北强奸 men's golf team has qualified for the 2012 national university and college championship tournament, to be played at the Cordova Bay Golf Club in Victoria, B.C., May 28 to June 1. 缅北强奸 earned its berth based on its results in the Quebec University golf circuit in the fall of 2011.

This marks the fourth time in six years that 缅北强奸 has played at the Nationals. Their last participation was in 2009 when the event was also played in Victoria.

The tournament is a 72-hole event, featuring five golfers per team, played over four days.

''Our goal at the beginning of the year was to qualify for the Nationals and I am proud that the team has reached this objective," said 缅北强奸 head coach Bob Dubeau, who learned of the qualification from Golf Canada this week.

缅北强奸's team includes sophomores Brian Neill of Ottawa and Ryan Boyd of Montreal West, Yannick Schuwey, a first-year exchange student from Switzerland. Also making the grade is Benoit Miquel, a civil engineering freshman and sophomore Tom Calvet, both natives of France.

Competition is expected to be very strong in Victoria. Defending champion Humber College has also qualified. along with runners-up UBC and Laval, in addition to perennial contenders Victoria, Western, Waterloo and the Montreal Carabins.

A new qualification system developed by the Canadian Golf Coaches Association was approved by Golf Canada last October and is in effect for the 2012 tourney. The system is based on regional qualification during the fall. In the men's division, the Ontario, Quebec and Canada West conferences are each allocated four berths while the Atlantic region received one berth. The men's field of 20 teams also includes the host team, four top teams from the 2011 college championships and two wild cards selected by the Coaching Association.

Joining 缅北强奸 from the Quebec conference are Laval, Montreal and UQTR. A similar qualifying format is in effect for the 12-team women's division, which will include Laval and Montreal.

The championship is organized by Golf Canada and one of the seven major annual events managed by golf's national governing body in Canada. The tournament is sanctioned by the CIS as a national university championship.
