Ã山ǿ¼é appoints new Dean of Dentistry

Published: 11 April 2008

Ã山ǿ¼é Principal Heather Munroe-Blum and Provost Anthony C. Masi are delighted to announce that the Board of Governors, at its April 7 meeting, approved the appointment of Professor Paul Allison as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry for a five-year term, renewable, starting June 1, 2008, and ending May 31, 2013.

Prof. Allison, a William Dawson Scholar, is currently the director of the Network for Oral and Bone Health Research (RSBO – Réseau de recherche en santé buccodentaire et osseuse) as well as the director of the Division of Oral Health and Society of the Faculty of Dentistry. Prof. Allison earned a BDS (Bachelor in Dental Surgery) from University College London, a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, an MSc in Dental Public Health from the London Hospital Medical School and a PhD in Dental Sciences from Ã山ǿ¼é.

Prof. Allison has been an active and contributing member of the Faculty’s Curriculum, Promotions, Admissions and Graduate Studies Committees and, along with other contributions, spearheaded a major initiative to develop a non-thesis MSc program in the Faculty.

Prof. Allison has an outstanding record of attracting external funding for research and other scholarly work and has received peer-reviewed salary support as well as financial backing for his work in organizing a colloquium on access to dental health care for Quebec’s under-privileged population.

Prof. Allison was recommended by the committee because of his proven commitment to exceptional academic standards in research, teaching and service, his vision of leadership, his national and provincial network as well as his ability to lead in an innovative and collegial manner. He replaces James Lund, who is stepping down after 13 years as dean.
