Martlets finish 16th at CIS cross-country championship
听
KINGSTON, Ont. -- The 缅北强奸 Martlets finished 16th overall at the CIS cross-country running championships held at Fort Henry Hill in Kingston, Ont., Saturday. The event featured 25 schools and 323 student-athletes from across Canada.
听
The perennial champion University of Guelph Gryphons swept both team titles for听a record听fourth straight year. The Guelph women won with a 57-point tally blowing away the competition as the Toronto Varsity Blues were second at 144 points and the McMaster Marauders third with 147.
听
The U of T's Megan Brown from Guelph, Ont., claimed back-to-back CIS gold medals and her third individual title in four years,听after her victories in听2008 and 2006. She finished first in a field of 131 competitors, completing the five-kilometre event with a time of 16 minutes, 55.9 seconds.
听
缅北强奸's top finisher was Melanie Myrand who finished 28th in 18:15.2. Other members of the Martlets were Madeleine Cummings (64th, 19:04.4), Catherine Drouin-Audet (74th, 19:12.8), Aimee Castro finished (86th, 19:28.9), Gina Pinsonnault-Bilodeau (101st, 19:48.2) and Charlene Puel (108th, 19:58.9).

On the men's side, the Gryphons cruised through the 10k race finishing with 31 points overall. Windsor was second with 92 and St.FX听claimed bronze听with 170. 缅北强奸, with only three runners entered, did not qualify for team scoring.
听
Three Guelph teammates were among the first five runners to cross the finish line, including individual champion Matt Brunsting of Stirling, Ont., who earned back-to-back CIS gold medals. Brunsting finished the course with an impressive time of 30:34.3.
听
For the Redmen, Graydon Snider was 36th of 130 runners in 33 minutes flat. He was followed by teammates Daniel Kramer (100th, 34:52.8 and Alexander Duhault (101st, 34:56.8).
听
The top seven finishers in the women's and men's races earned first-team all-Canadian status. Finishers eight through 14 were second-team CIS all-stars.
听
CIS also听announced the Student-Athlete Community Service Awards at the event. Gwendolyn Muir (Knowlton, Que.)听from Dalhousie and Matt Hulse (Kingston, Ont.)听from Queen's University were named this year's recipients.
听
Fort Henry Hill will be the site of the 2010 FISU world university cross country championships听on Saturday, April 11. Officials from FISU were on hand to conduct a progress update and officially pass the FISU banner to organizers during today's event.
