ANTIGONISH, N.S. - Three members of the No.1-ranked 缅北强奸 Martlets earned national honours at the CIS women's hockey All-Canadian banquet held Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier University's Keating Centre

Cathy Chartrand, a third-year defenceman from Lac Nominingue, Que., was named the to CIS first team along with forward Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-脦les, Que. Martlet teammate Vanessa Davidson of Kirkland, Que., received second-team honours.

听

It marked the third straight all-Canadian award for Bettez, a management junior who was voted to last year's top unit and was a second-team all-Canadian as a freshman in 2007-08, when she was named CIS rookie of the year. Chartrand, a physical education junior, who was the top-scoring defenceman in the country this season with 10 goals and 28 points in only 20 games, was a member of the second CIS all-star team a year ago.

听

For Davidson, a fifth-year physical education senior, it marked the fourth time that she has merited all-Canadian status, including a pair of first-team selections in both 2007 and 2008. She joins goaltender Kim St-Pierre as the only other Martlet player to accomplish this feat. St-Pierre earned first team honours in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003.

Wilfrid Laurier goaltender Liz Knox edged out Chartrand for the CIS player of the year award. Other CIS major award winners announced were Manitoba defenceman Caitlin MacDonald of Winnipeg, who was named the nation's top rookie, Saskatchewan's Steve Kook, who claimed coach-of-the-year honours, as well as Dalhousie's Kaitlyn McNutt of Ottawa, who received the Marion Hillard award recognizing excellence in hockey, academics and community involvement.

The 2010 CIS championship gets underway Thursday in Antigonish, N.S., with the first of three days of round-robin action. The national tournament, hosted by StFX for the second straight year, culminates Sunday with the gold-medal final set for 6 p.m. Atlantic Time. SSN Canada will webcast all nine games from the competition.
