By Earl Zukerman
MONTREAL – Marie-Andrée Leclerc-Auger of Sherbrooke and Montreal
native Christian Dabrowski are the Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of
the week for the period ending March 15, 2009.
Leclerc-Auger, a 5-foot-5 forward on the women’s hockey team,
scored four goals and assisted on two others as the No.1-ranked
Martlets swept their playoff series from Ottawa in two games and
captured the league championship with their 51st consecutive
victory. A 21-year-old physical education freshman, Leclerc-Auger
was voted rookie of the year in the Quebec league and is bidding to
become the player to score 50 goals in a season. She currently
leads the Martlets with 45 goals and 89 points in 39 games overall,
heading into the CIS Nationals at Antigonish, N.S., later this
week. Leclerc-Auger hit the 50-goal plateau with Collège de
Saint-Jérôme last year.
Dabrowski, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound member of the men’s rowing team,
won the 6,000-metre race at Ã山ǿ¼é’s indoor ergometer competition
known as “pERGatory†last Sunday, with a clocking of 20 minutes,
26.1 seconds. The fifth-year biochemistry senior also guided his
quartet to a tie for first-place in the 4x500m relay, which
finished in a dead heat with an average split time of 1.29.0.
Dabrowski joined the rowing team in 2004 after graduating from
Dawson College.
