MONTREAL – Lucas LaCava of Weston, Conn., and Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., are the Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 9, 2008.

LaCava, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound attacker on the men’s lacrosse team, scored nine points, including seven goals in two games last week, leading the Redmen to a silver medal at the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association national championship tournament in Hamilton. The 20-year-old management junior was named as Ã山ǿ¼é’s player of the game in both contests. LaCava netted a hat-trick with a pair of assists in Saturday’s semifinal, a 13-9 upset over top-seeded Brock, then added four markers in the gold medal game, a 14-9 loss to Guelph. He enrolled at Ã山ǿ¼é in 2006 out of Lawrenceville School in New Jersey.

Bettez, a 21-year-old management sophomore with the women’s hockey team, tallied four points in Ã山ǿ¼é’s 6-1 victory at Carleton last Saturday. The 5-foot-4 forward  scored once and earned assists on each of the first three goals. Bettez, who was voted CIS rookie of the year last season, currently leads the Quebec league scoring race with 6-9-15 in five games. She joined the Martlets out of Dawson College last year.
