QUEBEC CITY – Victoria Kayser became the first Ã山ǿ¼é woman ever to capture an individual title at an intercollegiate golf tournament, Sunday.

The 19-year-old management sophomore, a native of Germany, won the Omnium Rouge et Or in a sudden-death playoff at Golf de la Faune in Quebec City, to break a three-way tie atop the leaderboard.

Kayser, who stands 5-foot-7 and finished second at the Quebec university championships last year, shot rounds of 77 and 82 over the two-day tourney to complete the competition with 159, which tied her with Jani Fortin and Anick Groulx, both members of the Montreal Carabins.

Kayser then shot a par-4 to win the sudden-death hole by a stroke.

"She drove the fairway, chipped onto the green and two-putted," said Bob Dubeau, the former long-time director of athletics at Ã山ǿ¼é who now serves as head coach of the golf team. "Victoria was cool as a cucumber and gave us our first individual tournament title, men or women, in probably four decades, perhaps longer."

Laval finished first in the women's team scoring, shooting a score of 326 to edge out Montreal (327). UQTR was third with 338, followed by UQAM (34), Ã山ǿ¼é (345) and Sherbrooke (361).

The university circuit will conclude their three-tournament season with the Quebec championships at Club Île de Montréal, Oct. 3-5.
