Fabien G茅linas to head Canadian Arbitration Committee
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, acting as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Canada branch, announced a new leadership for its Arbitration Committee at a meeting held in Montreal on November 8, 2014. 聽
缅北强奸 Law Professor Fabien G茅linas, arbitrator and former General Counsel of the ICC Court, was elected as Chair of the Arbitration Committee. 缅北强奸 alumnus Stephen Drymer (BCL鈥90, LLB鈥90), head of international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution at Woods LLP, was elected vice-chair.聽Under a new leadership structure approved earlier this year, Drymer will succeed G茅linas in two years.
鈥淚鈥檓 honoured by this peer recognition and I am pleased to take the helm at such an exciting time. Arbitration is on everyone鈥檚 radar screen now and its relationship to state law and courts is being shaped in crucial ways.聽It must be steered in a way that protects the values of integrity and justice that prompted its development,鈥 G茅linas said.
The Committee, which has expanded its membership over the past several years, has become an important point of reference in Canada for international arbitration and has within its ranks most Canadian arbitration practitioners who act as counsel or arbitrators in international matters.聽
A sub-committee now chaired by G茅linas has responsibility for proposing arbitrators to the ICC Court when a request is made to ICC Canada. Beyond this specific role, the Arbitration Committee has been working more broadly to foster the development of a strong and ethical arbitration culture in Canada.
The annual meeting followed ICC Canada鈥檚 annual international arbitration conference held the day before at the Faculty of Law.
