Extreme Research: Winter Edition

Published: 10 February 2005

Ã山ǿ¼é experts face up to the cold!

What do robots, electric snowmobiles and seasonal affective disorder have in common? They are all topics being featured at Ã山ǿ¼é's Extreme Research: Winter Edition event on February 15. This event will showcase Ã山ǿ¼é's "cool" research about predicting, understanding and planning for winter weather and northern conditions.

Researchers will present their recent discoveries and innovations in the following areas:

  • Extreme weather
  • The winter wallop on our roads and bridges
  • The Canadian Arctic and global warming
  • Designing machines for extreme environments — including robots for de-icing planes … and Ã山ǿ¼é's electric snowmobile!
  • The special considerations for diet and nutrition in northern climates
  • Seasonal affective disorder: when will the sun shine again?

Join us on the Ã山ǿ¼é main campus to hear about more these topics.

When: Tuesday, February 15, 2005, 10:30 am

Where: Rendez-vous on the main campus in front of the Macdonald-Harrington Building, 815 Sherbrooke St. W., where we will launch the event. The venue for the presentations will depend — on the weather — but you can be assured it will be extremely interesting! Hot chocolate will be served.
