El Zanaty, Peroff named Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of week

MONTREAL – Moustafa El Zanaty of Montreal and Jordanna Peroff of
Keswick, Ont., are the Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of the week, for
the period ending Feb. 15, 2009.
El Zanaty, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard with the basketball Redmen,
scored 46 points in a pair of losses to Laval and became the third
player in school history to reach the 700-point plateau in a
single-season. He has exactly 2,000 points in 136 collegiate career
contests, including 1,196 with the Redmen and the remainder with a
number of NCAA schools. The finance senior was also credited with
eight rebounds, eight assists, six steals and one block over the
weekend. He shot 38.5 per cent from the field (15/39), 45.0 from
three-point range (9/20) and 87.5 from the foul line (7/8). El
Zanaty, who recently established a Ã山ǿ¼é single record of 81
three-pointers, is a graduate of Champlain College in St. Lambert,
Que.
Peroff, a 5-foot-6 forward on the hockey Martlets, scored one goal
and added three assists in a identical 4-2 victories over Ottawa
and Carleton last weekend. She assisted on the winning goal in both
contests, which allowed the Martlets to extend their win streak to
45 consecutive victories against CIS opponents. The 19-year old
sophomore is majoring in both English and cultural studies &
world religion. Peroff enrolled at Ã山ǿ¼é in 2007 after graduating
from Keswick high school.
