El Zanaty, Bettez named Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of week
MONTREAL – Moustafa El Zanaty of Montreal and Ann-Sophie Bettez
of Sept-Iles, Que., are the Ã山ǿ¼é athletes of the week
for the period ending Oct. 19, 2008.
El Zanaty, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard on the men’s basketball
team, earned all-tournament honours at the Ã山ǿ¼é Redbird Classic
last week, where Ã山ǿ¼é finished second with a 2-1 record. The
25-year-old finance & treasury junior scored a tourney-high 68
points to go with 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 11 assists in three
games. He shot 37.0 per cent from the field (20/54), 25 per cent
from 3-point range (5/20), and 85.2 per cent from the foul line
(23/27). El Zanaty is a graduate of Champlain College in St.
Lambert, Que.
Bettez, who turned 21 on Oct. 14, is a management sophomore with
the women’s hockey team. The 5-foot-4 forward scored six points,
including a pair of goals, in two games, both victories by the
No.1-ranked Martlets last week. Bettez, who was recently named to
play for Team Canada at the Under-22 world championships in Germany
next January, was the CIS rookie of the year last season after
playing for Dawson College.
