Dr. Karen Samonds, Curator at the Redpath Museum, also teaches human Head and Neck Anatomy at the Faculty of Dentistry. But it is her expertise in paleontology that many are seeking听to understand the significance of听her very unique find from Madagascar: a 40 million-year-old mammal which is the first fossil named from the 80-million-year gap in Madagascar's record. According to Samonds, the discovery of this ancestral seacow is an important step towards understanding how, when, and from where Madagascar鈥檚 modern animals came from.
