CIS TOP 10 TUESDAY (#2): 缅北强奸 soccer and rugby teams ranked

Published: 13 September 2011

OTTAWA (CIS) - Both of 缅北强奸's soccer teams and the women's rugby squad find hemselves in the CIS Top 10 this week.

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks move to the top of the CIS women's soccer rankings this week, while the York Lions and St. Francis Xavier X-Women remain at No. 1 in men's soccer and women's rugby, respectively.

In women's soccer, Laurier moves up one spot to No. 1 after improving to 4-0 in OUA conference play thanks to a pair of road victories, 2-0 over Western (2-2) and 2-1 against Windsor (2-2).

Meanwhile, the reigning national champion Queen's Gaels, who opened the campaign atop the rankings last Tuesday, slide to No. 4 despite winning their first three games of the regular schedule. The Gaels, who edged Laurier 1-0 in last year's CIS final, kicked off 2011 with a 4-0 shutout of Carleton (2-2), a 1-0 blanking of Ottawa (1-1-1) and a 2-1 win against Trent (0-3-1).

Montreal (2-0) and Alberta (2-0) also move past Queen's in the new coaches' poll. They are ranked second and third, respectively.

In men's soccer, defending CIS champion York improved to 3-0-1 in OUA action thanks to a pair of whitewashes, 1-0 versus McMaster (1-1-1) and 2-0 against Brock (1-3).

The UBC Thunderbirds (2-0), who lost 1-0 to York in the 2010 CIS title match, hold on to the No. 2 spot for the second straight week, while Laval (2-0) rounds out the leading trio, up from No. 6.

In women's rugby, reigning national champ StFX kicked off AUS play with a convincing 60-12 defeat of Acadia (0-1).

Guelph (1-0) and Lethbridge (0-0) remain second and third in the new poll.
