MONTREAL – Forward Ann-Sophie Bettez, a sophomore from Sept-Iles,
Que., exploded for five points, including a pair of goals, as
No.1-ranked Ã山ǿ¼é dumped Dalhousie 10-3 in women’s hockey
non-conference action at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
Freshman Marie-Andree Leclerc-Auger of Sherbrooke, Que., and Alyssa
Cecere, a junior from Brossard, Que., also netted two goals apiece
as the Martlets extended their win streak to 32 games against
Canadian university opponents.
Bettez, who earned CIS rookie-of-the-year honours last season,
tallied a power play goal and a shorthanded marker and reached the
100-point plateau in a Ã山ǿ¼é jersey. She has posted an impressive
14-21-35 record in 19 contests this season and owns a 43-61-104
record in 61 career games for the Martlets.
Other Ã山ǿ¼é marksmen included Vanessa Davidson, a senior from
Kirkland, Que., plus Montrealer Julie Casavecchia, Alessandra
Lind-Kenny of Calgary and Amy Soberano of Toronto.
Davidson, who scored her 100th career goal in Friday’s 5-1 win over
St.FX, has a lifetime record of 102-94-196 in 144 games for
Ã山ǿ¼é.
Charline Labonté of Boisbriand, Que., made eight saves for the
victory as Ã山ǿ¼é outshot Dalhousie 58-11, including a lopsided
23-1 margin in the middle stanza.
The Martlets led 2-0 after one period, 5-0 after two and were
comfortably ahead 7-0 when Kim Carcary of Newmarket, Ont., scored
her first of two powerplay markers for the Tigers at 6:53 of the
final period to ruin Labonté’s bid for a shutout.
Freshman goaltender Ashley Boutilier started for Dalhousie and took
the loss, turning aside 35 of 43 shots before being replaced with
15:53 remaining by junior Emelie Edefors, who was beaten twice on
15 shots.
Teammate Jocelyn LeBlanc netted the other goal for the Tigers, who
dropped to 9-8-0 overall. Dalhousie wraps up their three-game
Quebec tour at Concordia, Sunday (11:45 a.m.).
Ã山ǿ¼é, which improved to 17-2-0 overall, will close out the first
semester on Nov. 29 when they resume league play against Ottawa at
McConnell Arena.
