Soylent moves from fiction to the marketplace

The Montreal Gazette:聽(by Joe Schwarcz) Harry Harrison鈥檚 1966 science-fiction novel Make Room! Make Room! focused on the problem of insufficient resources created by an unchecked population explosion. A shortage of meat prompted the creation of 鈥淪oylent,鈥 a product made from soy and lentils. The 1973 movie Soylent Green was based on Harrison鈥檚 novel, but the plot underwent a dramatic change. In the movie, 鈥淪oylent,鈥 rather than being made from plants, was made from a more unusual source giving rise to the classic line: 鈥淪oylent Green is people!鈥澛Read .听
