“The University as Public Citizenâ€

Join our distinguished guest speaker, Ã山ǿ¼é alumnus Harold T. Shapiro, BCom’56, President Emeritus and Professor of Economics and Public Affairs, Princeton University, as he discusses the ways universities shape and reflect the goals of a society. What are the obligations of a university to the citizens that support it?

Dr. Shapiro has served as head of two major American universities, the University of Michigan (1980-88) and Princeton (1988-2001). His present academic interests include bioethics, on which he writes extensively. He chaired the National Bioethics Advisory Commission under President Bill Clinton. He also sits on the boards of a number of prominent non-profit ventures, including the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and RobertWood Johnson Medical School.
