Annual Dinner
Please join us for our cocktail reception and dinner with special guest speaker Dr. Joe Schwarcz, BSc’69, PhD’74.
Everybody wants to live a long life but nobody wants to get old. Can science solve this conundrum? What are we to make of claims which suggest that the secret of longevity lies in human growth hormone injections, or some dietary supplement? Can testosterone or estrogen keep us young? Can we live longer just by eating less? Are antioxidants, like beta carotene or vitamin E, the key to happy golden years? A look at the science behind these questions can be a real eye opener!
Dr. Joe Schwarcz is Director of Ã山ǿ¼é’s Office for Science and Society, an organization dedicated to de-mystifying science for the public, the media and students. He is a professor in Ã山ǿ¼é’s Department of Chemistry, and teaches nutrition and alternative medicine in the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Schwarcz’s informative and entertaining public lectures range from nutritional controversies to the chemistry of love. He has received numerous awards, including the Royal Society of Canada's McNeil Award, and is the only non-American to win the American Chemical Society's prestigious Grady-Stack Award.
