Selected Topics in Sensorimotor Integration: CRBLM Symposium

Friday, May 2, 2014
Montreal Neurological Institute 3801 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4, CA
Price:
Free

On Friday, May 2, the Centre for Research on Brain, Language and Music (CRBLM) will host a one-day symposium, our second annual meeting, to explore the overlap and divergence between language and music in sensorimotor integration. A substantial amount of work in speech demonstrates a close functional relationship between neural systems responsible for motor control and those responsible for sensory processing. A remarkable parallel exists in music performance, where there is good evidence for similar functional relationships between motor execution and perception. In 2014, the Montreal-based annual meeting focus on comparative perspectives on language and music as a means to enhance our understanding of these highly developed neurobiological, social and communicative behaviours.

Registration is now open (and free). The symposium features keynote addresses by Peter Keller, PhD (MARCS Institute, University of Western Sydney, Australia) and Anne-Lise Giraud, PhD (Universit茅 de Gen猫ve, D茅partement des Neurosciences Fondamentales).聽 Other invited speakers include CRBLM members: Drs. Vincent L. Gracco, Robert Zatorre, Rachel Brown, Krystyna Grabski and Katherin Rothermich. 聽

CRBLM invites faculty, students and postdoctoral researchers, both members and non-members, to submit a proposal for a poster as part of the symposium.聽 You needn't be a member of the centre, but your poster should fall within the domain of sensorimotor integration. We'd like to encourage a broad showing and discussion of work in this area.聽 Student presenters will be eligible for a $250 prize for best conference poster (student must be first author). Work that has already been presented at national or international conferences is welcomed.
