Talk title: ‘â¶Ä™Metabolic susceptibility to infection’’

Ìý

Abstract: Exactly what defines host susceptibility to specific bacteria is not well understood. In response to infection, CF immune cells release abundant amounts of succinate and itaconate, metabolites that are substrates for Pseudomonas aeruginosa proliferation and stimulate the oxidant stress that promotes biofilm formation. The availability of a preferred carbon source helps to explain why P. aeruginosa, as opposed to many other opportunists, predominate in CF.
