CDSI Workshop: The Organizational Consequences of Modern Data Science

Overview & Learning Goals:

This workshop is designed for current and future managers of teams that build or use data science technologies, as well as general audiences interested in understanding the broader societal and managerial consequences of such technologies.ÌýParticipants will gain an understanding of modern data science in organizations – key technologies, vocabularies, processes, and people.

Teaching Approach:

The instructor'sÌýapproach is to introduce key concepts and immediately have participants enrich their understanding by applying the knowledge to analyze real data. The workshop consists of two 45-minute modules, each comprising of a 25-minute lecture, 10 minutes of team-based analysis, and 10 minutes of presentations.

The modules are:

1) Data and Data Science: What is data and what makes it "good"? What is data science and what do data scientists do?

2) AI: What is artificial intelligence (AI) and what does/can it do in organizations?

Prerequisites:Ìý

  • This workshop is designed for cross-discipline audiences from undergraduates to professionals. No background in management or computer science is required.
  • Participants must bring their own laptops to the workshop.
