Media@缅北强奸 is pleased to announce that Professor Peggy Phelan, Ann O鈥橠ay Maples Professor in the Arts, Professor of Drama and of English at Stanford University, will be the 2013-2014 Media@缅北强奸 Visiting Scholar. During her winter/spring residence at 缅北强奸, Professor Phelan will be giving a seminar entitled Performance Theory:
This seminar is devoted to the key texts in the field of performance theory. Its focus is on the "frame" that divides non-performance from performance. If we say "all the world's a stage," who or what constitutes the off-stage? Readings will be drawn from the work of: Victor Turner, Richard Schechner, Martin Heidegger, Lynda Hart, Joseph Roach, Jean Baudrillard, Amelia Jones, Kathy O'Dell, Kristine Stiles, Daphne Brooks, and Daphne Lei - among others. We will look in particular at the work and life of Andy Warhol and Ronald Reagan, artists who eroded the line between performance and everyday life. Warhol and Reagan will be considered in relation to the avant-garde experiments of artists such as Kaprow, Montano, and Hseih.
